Frequently asked questions
You become a Spanish tax resident if you spend more than 183 days in Spain during the calendar year, or if Spain is where your main economic or vital interests are centred. Once resident, your worldwide income is taxable in Spain — though double taxation treaties prevent you from paying twice.
As a Spanish tax resident, you must declare your worldwide income in Spain, including pensions, dividends, rental income, or employment income from abroad. However, double taxation treaties typically allow you to credit the tax already paid in the other country against your Spanish tax bill.
The Beckham Law (formally the Special Tax Regime for Impatriates) allows certain foreign nationals who move to Spain to be taxed as non-residents for up to 6 years — meaning only Spanish-source income is taxed, at the flat 24% non-resident rate rather than progressive rates. Eligibility has specific conditions. We advise whether it applies to your situation.
+ Spanish tax residents with assets abroad exceeding €50,000 in any category (accounts, investments, real estate) must file Modelo 720 annually. Failure to comply can result in severe penalties. We assess whether you need to file and prepare the submission correctly.
Typically: your NIE/DNI, last year’s tax return if available, payslips or proof of income (Spanish and foreign), bank statements, mortgage certificate, and any investment or rental documentation. We provide a personalised checklist once we know your situation.
